Before I moved to the east coast I had no idea about the concept of school letting out or closing because of snow and ice. However, after witnessing for myself the significant trouble that inclement weather can cause in a highly populated urban setting I see the wisdom of snow day cancellations.
During the time students are home it is important that structure is provided for children to continue to work on the core building blocks of learning the three "R's" - reading writing and arithmetic.
Parents - If possible provide quality time with your children reviewing what they've learned and then spend some play time afterward. Moments like these with your children are gone before you know it so take advantage of these opportunities.

Christmas program and reflection
Greetings Sligo School Family,
I want to thank our faculty, staff and student body for a tremendous Christmas program last Thursday night. This is a wonderful time of season to share our love for Jesus through giving of time, talent and means to those in need. It is also a time to reflect on the blessing we have in the country we live. Let's not take it for granted.
FYI to our parents that Friday December 17 students have early dismissal at 12:30 p.m.
Merry Christmas everyone!

Operation Christmas Child
Greetings Sligo School Family,
Our Outreach Club under the sponsorship of Mrs. McFadden (2nd grade teacher) is working with Operation Christmas Child Samaritan's Purse to help get the word out on how to be a supporter of this great cause.
Next week from November 15-22 Sligo Adventist School is a drop off center for all those who want to help. You can help by bring a shoebox full of NEW items such as school supplies, toys, hygiene items and others things like hard candy, mints, gum, T-shirts, socks, ball caps, hair clips, flashlights and sunglasses etc.
If you would like to help but don't have a shoebox or time to fill one you can give money to off set the cost of shipping the shoeboxes overseas. For further information you can look on-line at www.samaritanspurse.org/ezgive.

New beginnings
Dear Sligo School Family,
Today we start the 2nd Quarter renewed and refreshed from our week of prayer. I want to publicly thank Pastor Josant Barrientos for speaking with and encouraging our students to talk daily to God through prayer. I want to also encourage each parent to create a schedule that allows for plenty of rest and good food for each of our children. By doing so, an atmosphere of cooperation and learning will be event when students come to school.
