Off and Running
After many meeting and long hours of thought and consideration the merger process between Sligo and JNA is finally over. It was voted down by the JNA constituency last Thursday night to keep the educational institutions in Takoma Park the way they are. So, I move forward to continue to create the most dynamic educational setting for our children to thrive in as possible. My goal is for every child who leaves our campus to be prepared for high school or academy no matter where they attend.
The first two weeks have been positive. With a renewed focus on technology in creating a fun exciting spiritual atmosphere starting with our morning worship I believe the tone is set. This leads to a strong academic program through curricular, technological and individual instruction to interest and challenge all our students.
I ask each of you to partner with us in creating the most successful school year possible.

Greetings,
I hope everyone's summer is going well. I want to let everyone know that I have been busy preparing for next school. The entire outside of the building has been repainted. The color was selected to match Takoma Academy. We have a new sound system in the cafeteria and movie screen and projector installed on the stage. Camp Upward Bound has been taking advantages of it.
I am including a link to the talking points with regard to the merger between our sister school John Nevins Andrews and Sligo. If you have any questions with regard to the talking points please give me a call.

End of another Successful School Year
I am enjoying the Sabbath hours and thinking back on another successful school year. I am so proud of our Sligo Students and how far they have come. As I mentioned at last Thursday nights graduation the class of 09 has been the face of the Sligo Adventist School brochure for the past four years. This class represents the diversity that SAS has fostered and cherished over the past decades.
I want to publicly thank all of the teachers and staff for working as a team throughout this school year. Our parents and students have noticed the changes and have expressed their appreciation.
SAS's sponsoring church "Sligo Seventh-day Adventist Church" and the pastorial team lead by Pastor Charles Tapp have been engaged and involved throughout which reflects upon the desire to promote and support Seventh-day Adventist Christian Education.
I wish all the students a restful and enjoyable summer and look forward to seeing you all back for the 09-10 school year. If you haven't registered yet it is not to late. Call the office at 301-434-1417 or scroll down to the world logo on the bottom right side of this blog. I'll wave the registration fee if you fill and print out the registration materials from this site and turn them in by the end of June.

Dear Sligo Parents and students,
The school year is quickly coming to an end and as we all gear up for the final push there are a few things that important for all of us to remember.
First, students who leave their belongings in the hall will find them in the lost and found. Lost and found is located in the hallway on the middle school side going to the court yard.
Second, when Kantian comes in the afternoon I have asked him to close the gate going to our side parking lot. Kantian usually comes around 4:15 – 4:30 p.m. We need to protect our children and campus as well as we can.
Third, please don’t plan to routinely pick up your children before 3:00 p.m. This creates congestion in our parking area in the front which leads to dangerous encounters with students leaving our campus. Those parents who do come before 3:00 p.m. will be asked to park in our side parking lot. We will make sure the gate is open so you can drive in. The back gate is locked at all times for security reasons.
Finally, if you have not registered your child for next year please plan on doing so ASAP. It is extremely important in our planning for us to know who is returning. We have had a number of new students already apply and we wouldn’t want your child to be left out.
Please continue to check on your child’s grades via Edline. You should receive at least one e-mail update weekly. Kindergarten would be the only exception. If you don’t receive frequent up-dated e-mails with your child’s grades, I need to know.
I’m looking forward to a GREAT end of the school year, and I know you are too.

March 25, 2009,
Today was a HIGH DAY at Sligo Adventist School. The entire school went to the National Mall for an outdoor educational experience. I'm not sure who received the most education, the students or adults? However you look at it, God blessed us with safe travel and a picturesque day.
How many schools do you know of that can take their entire school (K-8) to the National Mall? Indeed, Sligo Adventist School is something special.
If you enjoyed this trip tell a friend. There are so many special things that are unique about Sligo that we need to tell everyone. Remember tomorrow night is our School Open House. There will be a formal Kindergarten presentation beginning at 6:00 p.m. All the other grades will be open for visitors to peruse and talk to the teachers.
You can support the 8th grade fund-raising effort by donating a dollar for the privilege to dress in jeans and your slogo shirt.
It is always a pleasure to serve you in your child/rens educational needs.

D.C. Mall field trip
Hello Sligo School family,
This is my first blog and I hope this will help create a two way conduit for lines of communication between parents and administration. I am excited about the up coming field trips and activities that Sligo has planned for your children.
Please continue to peruse the website for the lastest information about the school. I have tried to make it as user friendly and interesting as possible but I am always looking for new ways to better our school.
